MONTREAL – Seventy-seven cats and 11 dogs have been rescued by the Montreal SPCA over the past two weeks.
According to the SPCA, in both cases the owners surrendered the animals, but had they not been, further enforcement actions would have been necessary.
In late September, 11 Huskies were brought in by an owner in the Monteregie area. Ranging in age from one to eleven, the dogs had been used for recreational sled dog activities, but spent most of their lives chained to decrepit dog houses.
The SPCA confirmed that it has been providing care for badly flea-bitten ears and working on the Huskies’ socialization and leash-walking skills.
“The dogs are friendly, but they have never lived indoors and will require homes that can provide them with love, patience and exercise,” the SPCA said in a statement.
Two of the dogs are available for adoption in Montreal, three with the Laurentides-Labelle SPCA, and the remaining six dogs will eventually be available for adoption once they have overcome their shyness.

Early in October, the SPCA rescued 77 cats from what it describes as a “hoarding situation,” where a person with good intentions started caring for unwanted neighbourhood cats; but the situation became overwhelming.
These cats will be available for adoption or foster as soon as they are evaluated and treated.
If you’re interested in adopting one of the dogs and cats, check out the SPCA website or Facebook page for more details.
