TORONTO – Though the sun is setting earlier, the nights are feeling cooler and the trees are coming alive with colour, fall is being relatively kind to us here in the GTA.
People across southern Ontario have been enjoying temperatures that have been slightly above-normal the past few weeks.
Usually, at this time of year, the daytime high is 16 C and the low is 7 C.

But we’ve been enjoying daytime highs of around 20 C for the past week. Since October started, daytime temperatures have barely fallen below 21.
The best part is, the trend will likely last straight into next week.
Rain and possible thunderstorms are possible this weekend, but the temperatures look to remain steady, around 18 C. And by mid-week, the sun will once again come out.
What’s responsible for the temperate weather?
Global’s chief meteorologist Anthony Farnell explains:
“The jet stream has amplified over the past week. Cold and unsettled conditions have expanded to include much of western Canada and the U.S. where in some cases record amounts of rain have fallen. Ontario has been on the other side of the jet. Warm temperatures and sunshine have been present all week but the ridge is slowly breaking down.
“The good news is that this will be a slow process so mild temperatures will continue through at least early next week. The bad news is that a large slow moving low pressure system will bring showers and even thunderstorms over the next few days.”
Of course, all good things must come to an end, and cooler temperatures are coming by Thanksgiving weekend. But at least this year, we can’t complain about going from summer straight into winter.
