Northern Lights put on quite the show

CALGARY- A rare, stunning display filled the night sky on Tuesday.

The Northern Lights put on a show that was best seen in the state of Minnesota, but could also be seen in Calgary and throughout Alberta. They were also spotted as far east as Toronto.

Global News received pictures from Barrier Lake in Kananaskis Country, but the spectacular sight could also be spotted from inside city limits.

Northern Lights are caused by particles from the sun hitting the earth’s atmosphere.

There could be a repeat performance on Wednesday night, with the Geophysical Institute forecasting that they could be visible in Calgary, Edmonton and northern Alberta–weather permitting.
