TORONTO — In a new interview, the Jonas Brothers weigh in on Miley Cyrus’s controversial MTV VMAs performance and the gay rumours that have followed them since their 2005 debut.

Joe Jonas, 24, told OUT magazine the sexually-charged performance by Robin Thicke and Miley Cyrus at the MTV Video Music Awards was not his “favourite performance of hers.”

He said: “There’s one way of saying you’re grown up, and there’s another way — I think that’s her way.”

Nick Jonas, 21, said he was amused by the performance. “I was laughing.”

The two siblings disagree on twerking, though.

“I’m against it,” said Nick. “I’ve just reached my limit. It’s just done. It’s too much.”

Said Joe: “I’m with it. Bring it on. I’m a fan.”

Nick and Joe also reacted to speculation about their sexuality.

“Prior to us being a band, I was a super theatre geek,” Nick told OUT. “I loved theatre and I still do, and I care about fashion, and I care about a lot of things that I feel like stereotypes are attached to.”

Added Joe: “We have a lot of gay friends and gay fans. It’s a boy band stereotype; people assume, but we don’t take offense.”

The interview appears in the November issue of OUT. The new album from the Jonas Brothers, V, is set for release later this year.
