Halifax police charge man in Barrington Street stabbing

Police in Halifax have charged a man in relation to a stabbing in the city’s south end on Monday night.

At around 7:30 p.m., Halifax Regional Police (HRP) were called to the 1800 block of Barrington Street for a report of an injured person.

“Officers located a 47-year-old man who had been stabbed by another man who was known to him,” HRP wrote in a news release on Tuesday.

“The suspect had fled the area on foot prior to police arrival.”

The victim was taken to hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.

HRP said the suspect was arrested Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.

Malcolm Edson Haggerty, 41, is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court later in the day on charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public.
