Speedway renamed and repurposed

Vernon’s Sun Valley Speedway has a new name and a new purpose that the owners hope will bring new life to the property.

The North Okanagan racetrack is now called MotoPlex Speedway + Event Park.

The owners have hired a marketing company to rebrand the property as the BC Interior’s largest outdoor event venue.

Concerts are planned for the long weekends in May, July and September.

Three B.C. bands will highlight the first event, the 1st annual MotoPlex Musicfest May 22nd.

Car racing has now taken a back seat at the 35 acre property.

“Basically to diversify into other aspects other than just racing, so we can utilize the property through out the whole season, not just on a limited basis,” says Bob Newcombe, Motoplex general manager. “I always found that if we raced every Saturday night, people get bored.”

$10 overnight camping will also be offered during event weekends.

MotoPlex speedway’s 10 weekend racing series starts May 1st.
