Regina – On cold autumn Sunday morning, police and peace officers across the country, were joined by friends and family to reflect, remember, honour and pay tribute to officers who have fallen in the line of duty.
On September 24, 1998, the Government of Canada officially proclaimed the last Sunday of September every year, as Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day. This is the tenth annual memorial held in Regina.

“I want to thank each police and peace officer for risking your lives to uphold our laws and for keeping us, our children and our grandchildren, safe,” said Honourable Vaughn Solomon Schofield.
The National Memorial day gives Canadians an opportunity to formally express appreciation for the dedication of police and peace officers who work to keep our communities safe.
The 59th officer was added to the honour roll on Sunday — Justin Knacksted died in the line of duty on May 31, 2013.
“Today we celebrate in life, we remember them in death, and we pledge to honour their memories,” said Schofield.
