CALGARY – A Calgary man is facing 26 charges relating to child pornography and the luring of victims for that purpose, authorities said this morning.
Police say Carl Ryan, 27, was arrested originally last August on four counts relating to a single victim. Since then, police say they’ve located five more victims, leading to 22 additional charges.
Ryan allegedly uses popular social networking sites to lure his victims.
“We encourage parents to get involved with their children on the Internet and learn with them how to be safe online,” said Cpl. Kimberley Krasman, a Calgary-based investigator with Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team, or ALERT. “We need to be as vigilant teaching our children to be safe on the Internet as we are in teaching them to be safe when going to the playground.”
Ryan appeared in court this morning, police say, but has been released under a number of conditions, including no contact with anyone under the age of 16.
