A terrifying experience of a West Vancouver woman is highlighting a growing debate over the safety of sunroofs.
Hildegard Gehriger was driving her new Hyundai Santa Fe between Cache Creek and Hundred Mile House when her panoramic sunroof exploded, sending glass flying everywhere.

She says she’s lucky she didn’t lose control and crash.
The Hyundai corporation has released a statement to Global News, saying the sunroof of the Santa Fe is made of tempered glass and in an impact or fracture is designed to break into small granular pieces.
Hyundai says it will conduct a full investigation of the sunroof.
