EDMONTON – Alberta Health Minister Gene Zwozdesky announced Tuesday he has frozen the centralization of ambulance dispatch systems through Alberta Heath Services.
Since AHS was created, 17 emergency medical services dispatch systems have been centralized.
Zwozdesky told members of the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties he heard concerns from local leaders about the move to centralize, and he decided last week to put a pause on the move.
“We will study those (17) to see how they’re progressing,” he said, adding there are no plans to reverse dispatch reorganization in places where it has already been completed.
