SASKATOON – Agriculture leaders from Canada, the United States and Mexico continue their talks in Saskatoon this week for the Tri-National Accord conference.
With agriculture responsible for more than one third of Saskatchewan’s export earnings, the industry is a vital part of the province’s economy.
Wanting to strengthen exports further, Premier Brad Wall announced Tuesday a major trade summit will be held in Saskatoon early next year.

The summit will bring together key players with the hope of creating new opportunities in current and emerging markets throughout the world.
“Agriculture is a huge deal for the province. It may be something that you think, well that should go without saying, but we got to say it. Because again, we talk about resources a lot and what is happening in agriculture. Not just in growing but in value added and research is a big deal and really putting us on the map in a lot of very positive ways,” said Brad Wall.
Saskatchewan was the country’s top agri-food exporter last year, exporting more than $11 billion.
The summit takes place Feb. 4 and 5, 2014.
