After an embarrassing mistake earlier this year, the province is changing the way they notify the public of an escaped prisoner.
Deputy Minister of Corrections Al Hilton says the government will only issue public notices in cases where an at-large inmate poses a threat to the public. This also applies to when prisoners are accidentally released.
The move comes after correction officials reported that a woman was accidentally set free when she had really been released in accordance with the terms of her sentence. Even after discovering the mistake it took the Sask. Party several days to retract their news release that had her photo, even after the mistake was discovered.
