iPad release dates announced, to arrive in Canada late April

Like a writ from the heavens, Apple Inc. allayed earlier fears of a delay by announcing April launch dates for the self-described "magical and revolutionary" iPad on Friday.

The basic WiFi version of the tablet computer device will be available in the United States on April 3, with the WiFi+3G edition coming in late April.

All models of the iPad will come to Canada in late April, along with Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

U.S. customers can pre-order starting on March 12.

As for pricing, the base model goes for a suggested retail price of US$499 for 16GB, US$599 for 32GB and US$699 for 64GB.

The WiFi+3G model will sell for US$629 for 16GB, US$729 for 32GB and US$829 for 64GB.

International pricing, including in Canada, will be announced in April, Apple said.

A recent survey shows consumers are even more excited about the iPad than the iPhone.

Not everybody is as excited about the iPad though, with some criticizing its lack of features, including a lack of support for Flash.
