A photograph taken by a fine art wildlife photographer from Warman, Sask., was selected as one of the top 10 photos in the World Photographic Cup.
Deborah MacEwen said she took the photo of a whale’s tail during an early morning in mid-September while on a boat in the Icy Strait in Alaska.
“The water was so still. It was a perfect morning,” she said.
MacEwen has been a photographer for nearly 45 years, but just began exploring her passion for shooting wildlife six years ago.
Since then, she has received several awards and recognition — not only in Canada, but around the globe.
“My husband was with me and I just looked at him and said, ‘Did they just say my name?'” she said, referring to the ceremony to announce the results last week.
“Then they showed my image. And … my heart did not stop for an hour, I’m sure.”
MacEwen said she will find out whether her photo makes the top three in the competition at the end of March.
“I’m just so happy to represent Canada.”
