VANCOUVER – The Vancouver Organizing Committee confirmed Monday that earlier in the morning a shuttle bus driver ferrying staff to Whistler died of a heart attack while on the road.
Renee Smith-Valade, a Vanoc spokeswoman, said the driver worked for contractor Gameday. She did not identify him but said he was travelling northbound on the Sea-to-Sky Highway when he suffered the heart attack. She said another bus driver on board steered the bus safely to the side of the road.
The six other drivers who were on board were given the day off, she said.
