WINNIPEG – Chris Hadfield, the former International Space Station commander who soared to fame using social media, is speaking in Winnipeg Wednesday.
Hadfield, who retired July 3 after returning to Earth in May, is scheduled to appear at the convention centre at 4 p.m. as a keynote speaker for the Canadian Society of Association Executives national conference.
Hadfield’s presentation, “The Sky is Not the Limit,” will explore what he’s learned in his career as an engineer, fighter pilot, test pilot and astronaut.

He “motivates audiences to achieve dreams higher than the clouds,” says the Speakers’ Spotlight website, which represents Hadfield for speaking engagements.
Hadfield garnered a huge following in space, tweeting and later speaking with actor William Shatner, who played Capt. Kirk on Star Trek, using Skype to tell people about things like wringing out a washcloth in space, collaborating with the Barenaked Ladies to write a song performed by more than a million people simultaneously – including Winnipeg schoolchildren – and releasing a farewell music video of a slightly changed version of David Bowie’s Space Oddity.
His book, An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth, will be released next month.
