UPDATE: E. coli outbreak at Salmon Arm cheese company kills one

UPDATE: IHA has confirmed that one of the four people who became sick from E. Coli as a result of eating Gort’s cheese has died.  It says the person passed away in August. They are not saying where the person was from, age or gender. 

SALMON ARM — An outbreak of E. Coli from cheese sold at a Salmon Arm company has resulted in a warning from the BC Centre for Disease Control.

It has issued a public alert to avoid eating cheese from Gort’s Gouda Cheese Farm.

Officials say four people have become ill after eating cheese from the Salmon Arm company.

They say another four more cases are under investigation.

Reports of people getting sick began in July.

Health officials say anyone with Gort’s cheese products, including retail, should get rid of it immediately.

Gort’s cheese is distributed across B.C.

The company has agreed to stop all further shipments and to stop selling cheese to the public on the farm.
