VANCOUVER — Forty-four employees at Vancouver City Hall received notices Thursday that they may face layoffs in 60 days.
The action is a result of cuts stemming from the 2010 budget, which was approved in December. City Hall initially thought 120 positions would need to be axed, but that number has been pared down to 44 after impacted staff members were placed in vacant positions.
It is possible some of the 44 people who received the notices may also be found jobs in other positions.
City Manager Penny Ballem told staff in an email Thursday that the possible cuts were being announced because employees had been "working in a state of uncertainty" since the service adjustments had first been discussed in December.
No one will be laid off before or during the Olympics.
