A helicopter pilot’s chance fly-over plucked an injured teenage snowmobiler out of the backcountry after a high-speed crash.
The 18-year-old female was snowmobiling with her father and others Tuesday near Cataract Creek in south Kananaskis Country.
The teen slammed into a tree at high speed and was thrown off the snowmobile, officials say.

A friend raced off to phone for help at the Highwood River Inn, but a helicopter pilot spotted the scene as he flew over the wreckage.
The pilot, part of a group assessing pine beetle damage in the Rockies, set down, loaded the woman into his chopper, and flew her to the backcountry lodge where an ambulance was waiting. She was taken to Rockyview Hospital with internal injuries.
