Toronto’s Billy Bishop Airport says it will resume operations after it was evacuated due to a ‘suspicious item.’
A spokesperson for the airport told Global News the item was found within a carry-on item by security and that Toronto police and fire were called in. The airport was then evacuated.
“The Explosive Disposal Unit of Toronto Police Services retrieved the item, conducted a full investigation, and have confirmed that the item is a medical device and not a threat to public safety,” said the statement.
The spokesperson said operations should resume shortly but that passengers can expect delays.
Police said officers were at the airport for an investigation but would not confirm the nature of the incident.
