Police received multiple calls around 8 p.m. for reports of gunshots in the area of Airport Road and Hull Street, just north of Derry Road and near Pearson Airport.

Officers initially said three people were shot, but in an update Saturday police said two men were shot and a third male victim suffered a head injury.

One of the victims who was shot was taken to hospital where he died. He hasn’t been identified.

The other victims were also taken to hospital and were later released.

While speaking to reporters Saturday, Insp. Todd Leach provided further insight into what investigators believe transpired.

“What we have learned thus far is that throughout the day, there [were] multiple incidents involving two groups and we have multiple scenes that we’re dealing with, with respect to that as well,” he said.

“That incident ended here, at which point there was a confrontation. We believe it was between 18 and 20 males.”

Leach said the incidents were disputes which began around 12 p.m. He said there were at least three separate incidents in Peel Region, with a fourth resulting in the fatal shooting.

Police said the group involved fled the scene after shots were fired.

It’s not known if there was more than one shooter.

The cause of the disputes isn’t clear. One suspect has since been charged.

Leach said they’re still looking for more individuals who may have been involved in the shooting.

“We’d like to talk to everybody who was here … we know somebody knows who is responsible for this in that group and they need to come forward,” he said.
