CHÂTEAUGUAY, Que. – More than 1,000 hockey fans braved a damp Labour Day to catch a glimpse of Chicago Blackhawks netminder Corey Crawford and the Stanley Cup that his team took from the Boston Bruins this season.

“It’s been so fun, an incredible experience,” Crawford said of the aftermath of the championship. “It was a dream.”

Just before the event, which took place at the Châteauguay Multisports Centre, Crawford inked a six-year contract extension reportedly worth $36 million.

Just after the Stanley Cup finals, Crawford’s name became an Internet sensation when he fired off a profanity-laden victory speech in Chicago.

“The crowd was getting, uh, kind of quiet, and so my cousin came up with an awesome speech,” said Thomas Markhauser, a cousin of Crawford’s who was attending the event.

Some attendees, like 15-year-old Nicholas Marcori, reported waiting for three hours to see Crawford and the cup and the event was being lauded by attendees for its community atmosphere.

“Have a look around you, it just brings everyone together,” said Julie Nellis, a fan from Châteauguay. “It’s fantastic.”
