MONTREAL – Sammy Forcillo is retiring from municipal politics.
In a press release, the 29 year veteran of Montreal’s city council said he intends to “devote his time to his family and personal projects.”
Forcillo was first elected to office in 1978.
He worked alongside Jean Drapeau, before joining Pierre Bourque, and later Gérald Tremblay.

He has been the city councilor for Peter-McGill since 2009 and up until recently, Forcillo served as Frank Zampino’s right hand man on the executive committee.
Forcillo’s name came up repeatedly during testimony at the Charbonneau Commission.
Michel Lalonde, the engineer at the head of a cartel of engineering firms said he often had to go through Forcillo to meet with Zampino.
Lalonde now faces criminal charges.
Forcillo has not been directly implicated by the commission.
Forcillo continued to defend himself in saying goodbye.
“I am honoured to have been a trusted member of the city council and to have received the support from other elected officials,” he wrote.
“I will finish my term with confidence. I am happy with the work I have done.”
