TORONTO – An art exhibition opening in October at the Royal Ontario Museum confronts the issue of climate change in powerful and creative ways, the museum says.
“Carbon 14: Climate is Culture” features 13 installations, including seven new commissions by Canadian and international artists. There will be an Inuktitut language film, works in sculpture and video, and an interactive iPad and photography installation called “Our Baffinland.”
The artworks explore themes of a changing Arctic, the health of oceans, biodiversity and extinction, as well as economic and ethical questions, said David Buckland, founder of the Cape Farewell project based in the Data Centre at the Science Museum in London, England.
The exhibition, running Oct. 19 to Feb. 2, 2014, is the inaugural programming from Cape Farewell’s North American foundation, based at Toronto’s MaRS Centre.
An accompanying festival of performing arts, talks and other public events is also planned.
