Suspects caught on surveillance camera

SASKATOON – It’s a trend that more people are turning to to protect their property and possessions – surveillance cameras.

This was highlighted on Tuesday when an arsonist was caught on camera dousing a garage in the 1000-block of Avenue K South, setting it on fire and then driving away.

It was the third time since May the garage had been targeted.

“It’s not only a deterrent but it does assist in solving the crime and bringing the right people to justice” said Saskatoon Police Service Spokesperson Alyson Edwards.

So far, no arrests have been made.

According to AlarmTek, most residents go with a standard home alarm system. It’s those who don’t feel safe who up the anti.

“A lot of times it’s because they’ve already had an incident,” said Richelle Cachuck, a sales representative with the company.

“Homes with back alleys where there’s no visible sight to the public is where they put a camera in.”

According to AlarmTek, businesses and large rental properties in Saskatoon are increasingly using surveillance.

Police recommend alarm systems for residences. As for surveillance, that’s a choice based on personal comfort and how badly somebody wants to catch someone red-handed.
