Lilly the Golden Lab has a lot of people to thank for safely reuniting her with her owner this past Sunday.

She had spent Saturday night on a narrow ledge down an embankment along the Peace River, and at about 2 p.m. on Sunday, the Hudson Hope RCMP were called for assistance from the fire department and her owner as she would just not come down.

Turns out, some time overnight, the dog had wandered or taken a tumble over the cliff for a distance of about 200 feet, and was now stuck on a ledge about 50 feet above the Peace River.

RCMP deployed their jet boat and were able to take an RCMP officer and two firefighters to the base of the cliff where they had to deal with heavy winds blowing down the river valley that day.

Despite gentle coaxing and numerous attempts, Lilly would not leave the safety of her perch. The rescuers then returned with a ladder and rope, at which time RCMP Cst. Bernier was able to climb up the side of the river bank and get a rope around Lilly. She was then led down the slope to the river’s edge, where she was re-united with her owner.

Despite being out on the side of the river overnight and being exposed to sun and wind for the entire day, Lilly just needed a dip in the river and a nice long drink of water. She only suffered minor abrasions.  As a bonus, Lilly and her owner got an RCMP boat ride to the nearest boat launch and were sent on their way home safe and sound back to Chetwynd. said Cpl James Fenske Hudson Hope RCMP Detachment Commander.
