Police across the country are urging parents to inspect all their children’s Halloween candy after a razor blade, needle and syringe were discovered in goody bags.
In the Toronto suburb of North York, a family found a razor blade inside a loot bag that was filled with candy, said Sgt. Craig Somers.
He said the boy’s parents discovered the razor while they were checking his treats. None of the Halloween candies appeared to have been tampered with, he said.
Similar incidents were reported in Whitby and Cambridge.
A two-inch needle was found in a Tootsie Roll in Whitby. Police there said the needle had been inserted into the candy and was partly visible, adding that the candy wrapper also appeared to have been tampered with.
In Cambridge, a girl found a syringe in her trick-or-treat bag after going through her candy at home, Waterloo Regional Police said.
No one was injured in any of the incidents.
Last year, police in southern Ontario reported five cases of cold medication found in sealed Smarties boxes.
