COMOX, B.C. – A fisherman has been transported to hospital after a medical emergency at sea prompted the air force to stage a medevac.
Search-and-rescue officials received a call on Thursday morning about a fisherman who had seriously injured his hand while working aboard a 22-metre commercial fishing vessel.

The ship was about 90 nautical miles northwest of Port Hardy in Queen Charlotte Sound.
The Royal Canadian Air Force sent a Cormorant search-and-rescue helicopter and a Buffalo plane, which flew through good weather to reach the scene.
A news release says three search-and-rescue technicians hoisted down to the boat to retrieve the fisherman, who was flown to Port Hardy and then transferred to a plane to be flown to Victoria.
The fisherman was taken to hospital in Victoria, though his condition isn’t known.
