Eight people self-evacuated from their homes early Tuesday as London fire crews battled a blaze at a townhouse complex in the south end of the city.
Emergency crews responded to an active structure fire at 700 Osgoode Dr. just around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday.
Platoon Chief Gary Mosburger says they were on site for more than two hours before clearing the scene just after 6 a.m.
“The fire did get up into the attic space and roof area, so our overhaul operations took quite a while.,” he said.”
“We attacked the fire from outside, and then were able to get inside and knock the remaining fire down.”
Mosburger says early damage estimate is around $200,000 but that figure could climb.
“What we can tell right now, it’s just the two units that were impacted by flame impingement, there could be potential a little bit of smoke migration, not 100 per cent sure on that yet,” said Mosburger.
According to the fire department, two units at the complex were involved in the fire, and occupants of both had self evacuated.
“Four people from each unit had evacuated prior to our arrival,” said Mosburger.
Fire investigators are working with London police to determine a cause.
The investigation is ongoing.
