Outlander has all the markings of a perfect dramatic series and we’re thrilled to be bringing the phenomenon to Showcase,” said Barbara Williams, Senior Vice President, Content, at Shaw Media. “The series will captivate television audiences as it has done with its series of novels.”

Shaw Media is parent company of Global News.

Scottish actor Sam Heughan, 33, will play the lead role of Jamie Fraser in the 16-part series and Tobias Menzies (Game of Thrones) will portray both Frank Randall and Jonathan Randall.

Outlander is written and executive produced by Ronald D. Moore, whose Battlestar Galactica was shot in Vancouver and whose new series Helix is currently in production in Montreal.
