CALGARY- A new report out of a political think tank says Calgary homes are overvalued, and encourages the city to sell some of its infrastructure.

The findings examining the role of municipal government were released by the Manning Foundation, which was started by Preston Manning. The report says Calgary needs to reexamine how and where it grows, adding that the average home is overvalued by at least $100,000.

“What we call for in the report is more oversight, asking questions like ‘will the benefits of this regulation exceed the costs?’” explains David Seymour from the Manning Foundation.

The report also finds the city should consider selling some of its infrastructure and facilities—including sewers, water and electrical distribution—to private companies.
