UPDATE: John Furman, 95, made his first appearance in court today and has been remanded into custody until Aug. 21 on a charge of murder.
Vernon RCMP were called to the Jubilee Hospital on the morning of Aug. 19 after reports of Furman fatally assaulting his 85-year-old roommate.
The 85-year-old man died from his injuries at the scene. Both were residents of the hospital’s Residential Extended Care Facility.
The autopsy on the victim, whose name has not been released, will be completed by Aug. 21.
The Vernon Serious Crime unit is continuing their investigation with the homicide investigation team at the extended care facility.
