NEW GERMANY, N.S. – RCMP continue to investigate the death of an ultralight pilot after his plane crashed in central southern Nova Scotia yesterday.

The Mounties say Byron Varner of Barss Corner had been flying alone when his lightweight plane went down and burst into flames near Old Barss Corner Road by New Germany.

The incident took place shortly after 10:15 Sunday morning.

The 65-year-old man’s plane caught fire when it hit the ground.

RCMP, firefighters and emergency health crews were on the scene.

Police say the Transportation Safety Board has been advised but will not be sending anyone to the crash site.
