Kelowna company nabs Rapidbus construction contract

KELOWNA — Rapidbus expansion across Kelowna, West Kelowna and the Westbank First Nation is one step closer to reality.

The BC government has awarded the $4.8 million dollar construction contract to Kelowna based Emil Anderson Construction Inc.

“The expansion includes building four transit stations and two transit exchanges, which will connect to the existing RapidBus service between downtown Kelowna and UBCO” according to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Shovels are set to hit the ground in September with construction slated to finish in July 2014.

The contract includes building:

  •  Transit exchanges at Westbank Centre and Boucherie Mountain in West Kelowna.
  • Transit stations at Westside Road and Butt Road in Westbank First Nation.
  • Transit stations at Highway 97 and Gordon Drive and Highway 97 and Richter Street in Kelowna
