July housing starts up in Saskatoon

SASKATOON – New housing starts in Saskatoon during July were up from the previous month according to preliminary figures from Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

The agency says 371 new houses were started in the census metropolitan area for the month, up from 212 in June.

There were 221 new single detached homes started along with 150 multiple family units, up respectively from 138 and 74 in June.

In the first seven months of 2013, CMHC says construction began on 1,465 new houses, down from the 1,767 started during the same period last year.
