The Limestone District School Board says three out of five schools that were ordered to self-isolate late Thursday are no longer at risk in relation to a local COVID-19 variant of concern.
Friday afternoon, the board cleared students sent home from Marysville Public School, Module Vanier, Polson Park Public School of any risk, and said they were no longer required to self-isolate. The students can return to class next week.
The board said there are no cases of COVID-19 at the three schools and all remain open.
The cohorts from the two other schools, Sir John A. Macdonald Public School and Winston Churchill Public School, must continue to stay home and self-isolate.
In total, seven classes were sent home after the health unit discovered these students were contacts of a contact of a COVID-19 variant of concern.
The board said none of the students or staff that were sent home have tested positive for the virus yet. The board does not have information on whether the contact of the known case with the variant has tested positive.
“Affected cohorts will remain at home in isolation until further investigation is completed by public health,” a statement from the board said.
Students who were not identified as part of an affected cohort can continue going to school if they pass the daily COVID-19 screening.
