Watch: Funnel cloud spotted west of Toronto

TORONTO – A small community west of Toronto got a bit of a scare Wednesday evening as severe thunderstorms ripped through the area overnight.

Amateur video captured and posted on Youtube shows a funnel cloud making its way around Arthur, Ontario, about 100 kilometres west of the Greater Toronto Area.

The video description indicates the funnel cloud was sighted around 5:30 p.m. travelling east along Highway 109 where Dufferin and Wellington County’s meet.

It’s been reported that severe thunderstorms produced several tornadoes across parts of Southern Ontario Wednesday evening.

Environment Canada issued several thunderstorm watches for north of the GTA in parts of cottage country during the rush hour.

The Canadian weather service plans to send out damage survey teams to check on potential tornado strikes in Ontario near Carnarvon east of Bracebridge, near Orillia and near Arthur west of Orangeville.

No major damages were reported.
