Halifax police have released the name of the man who died Saturday in what was ruled a homicide.
Police say the victim was 25-year-old Joseph Beals from Dartmouth.
Halifax Regional Police responded to reports of a vehicle crashing into a utility pole at the intersection of Mount Edward Road and Cranberry Crescent at around 2:10 p.m. on Saturday.
The driver, Beals, had suffered gunshot wounds, police say. He later died at the hospital.
Investigators are asking help from residents who may have video from Feb. 20, between 2 and 2:15 p.m., for the following Dartmouth locations: Main Street between Ridgecrest Drive and Lake Major Road, Ridgecrest Drive, and Mount Edward Road.
HRP ask anyone with information about the incident to contact local police.
A GoFundMe page has been set up on Tuesday for Beals’ funeral expenses. The goal is to raise $15,000.
“(JoJo) was a quiet, respectful and funny young man. He loved his family and friends and would not hesitate to do what he could for anyone of them,” said Samuel Provo-Benoit, the page’s organizer.
“Although JoJo’s life was relatively short here on earth, he has left such a huge impact and stamp on our hearts and everyone that knew him and that will live on forever! We will forever miss him deeply,” he added.
Provo-Benoit said JoJo loved to spend time with his children and family. He was also talented in drawing.
His wife Brea, son; Amari, 5, and daughter; Brielle, 1, along with his parents and siblings are “left to pick up the broken pieces of their life and try to find a sense of normalcy while dealing with their new normal.”
“Anything that you can contribute great or small will be so very much appreciated and will not go unnoticed. My wish is that we can help in any way possible to help ease this unexpected financial burden,” said Provo-Benoit.
