Pedestrian seriously injured after being hit by van in northwest Edmonton

A 52-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries Tuesday after being struck while crossing the street in northwest Edmonton.

Edmonton police said the collision happened on 118 Avenue and 123 Street around 12:25 p.m.

The collision happened while the man walked south down 123 Street and crossed 118 Avenue at a marked crosswalk.

Police said the pedestrian “sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries” and was taken to hospital by EMS.

The 20-year-old man driving the van was not injured.

Lanes in both directions on 118 Avenue, between 122 and 124 Street, were closed for several hours Tuesday as police investigated.

The westbound and eastbound lanes of 118 Avenue between 122 Street and 124 Street were closed for the majority of the afternoon as the Major Collision Unit investigated. Roads were set to reopen just after 4:30 p.m.

Police said at this time, alcohol and speed are not being considered factors in the collision.
