All provincial parks in Kananaskis Country now open

CALGARY – All provincial parks in Kananaskis are now open – just in time for the long weekend.

The province has been busy fixing roads and repairing area campgrounds damaged by flooding in June.

Officials say almost 80 per cent of summer trails and more than 70 per cent of campgrounds are now open.

However, some provincial recreational areas remain closed.

The Peter Lougheed Provincial Park Visitor Information Centre was closed on July 25 due to structural damage caused by flooding – and will remain closed until engineers can access the facility.

An online map is available for a complete picture of areas that are open in Kananaskis Country and areas that remain closed.

Conditions on all trails are changing constantly and the public are asked to take note of any unmarked hazards or previously unreported conditions and call the Kananaskis Information line at 403-678-0760.

Visitors to parks are also urged to exercise caution when in the water as the flooding has changed a number of waterways, making them deeper and faster moving.
