SASKATOON – A group of Saskatoon ice cream lovers are off to Chile on a dream vacation.
After entering an online contest last summer, the group has been waiting months for this trip of a lifetime to finally take flight.
It’s going to be first class and five stars all the way for Nathan Thoen and five friends for the next week.
The group’s dream vacation to Santiago, Chile started off in style, dropped off in a limo at the John G. Diefenbaker Airport.
“So we’ve just been prolonged crazy excitement for so long and for it to actually come it’s a dream come true,” said Nathan Thoen, Magnum Ice Cream’s Pleasure Quest winner.
“We’re all so stoked, it’s ridiculous, it doesn’t feel real,”
The group has taken snowboard trips before but nothing to this extent.
They applied to Magnum Ice Cream’s Pleasure Quest last August and won based on their idea for a trip that was most luxurious, creative and uniquely designed. A packed dream getaway worth $100,000.
“We’re going to heli-skiing, we’re going cruising on this yacht through the Chilean coast, we got winery tours, we got some of the best chefs in Santiago cooking for us, we got villas rented out, penthouse suits,” said Thoen.
Winter wasn’t long enough for this group and they can’t wait for more snow.
“We all try and shed as much as we can but we have been passionate snowboarders forever, this is what we breathe and what we bleed,” said Thoen.
The journey has already started for the crew.
They flew to Toronto on Wednesday, then on to Santiago, Chile where they will land Thursday. They return back to Saskatoon on Aug. 8.
