The province’s Special Investigations Unit is examining the incident that took place early Saturday morning.

The SIU says officers were investigating a man on a city streetcar when there was some sort of altercation between the man and police.

The SIU says the man was subsequently taken to hospital with a gunshot wound and died. Few other details have been released but friends have identified the man as 18-year-old Yatim.

The incident, which appears to have been captured on video by witnesses, has sparked outrage on Twitter at what some call unnecessary police force.
