Toronto police say a body was found following a house fire in Toronto’s north end on Tuesday morning.
Emergency crews were called to Norton Avenue, south of Willowdale and Finch avenues, at around 5:15 a.m. for a two-alarm fire at a detached home.
When firefighters arrived flames were coming out of the second floor, Steve Darling, Platoon Chief with Toronto Fire, told Global News.
Firefighters did a primary search and after the fire was knocked down did a secondary search and that is when they located a deceased person on the second floor, Darling said.
Toronto Paramedics said the person was pronounced dead on scene and no other injuries were reported.
No age or gender for the victim has been released.
Darling said it appears the residence is divided up in multiple units with more than one family living inside the home.
Police said investigators are unsure if the fire is suspicious and are waiting for the fire marshal to attend the scene.
The origin and cause of the fire is still unknown, Darling said.
