Jim Sprague
After receiving his diploma in Television Production from Fanshawe College in Ontario, Jim has used his skills as a Production Editor at CHEK News Creative Services.
Jim has worked on many varied projects, from vignettes for TV New Zealand to marketing videos, from nationally syndicated series on the Global and CanWest Media Works to thousands of station promotions and commercials, Jim has worked with a number of different editing styles. A creative and resourceful team player, Jim has worked his craft at CHEK for close to 30 years. His love of a story well told, his easygoing nature and his willingness to experiment contributes to every production.
Jim is an early adopter of technology and when he’s not busy cutting, he likes to keep up to date with the latest in advancements as well as run through tutorials on software.
His experience in editing a variety of productions for a variety of demanding Producers has given him a balanced skill-set that includes non-linear editing in standard or HD, After Effects and other animation and titling software, audio sweetening, colour correction and a multitude of tape and digital media.
Jim has accumulated many awards for his work on programming, videos and commercials, including the New York Festivals, the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters Excellence Awards and the Television Bureau of Canada Awards.
Highlights of his work include editing program content for national series, marketing and training videos for Tourism BC, SafetyCare International, Kal Tire and the internationally award winning documentary “˜The Eagles of Brackendale.’
Jim is currently working on a number of projects in commercial production, marketing videos and station promotion. He enjoys working on his home, his wife and teenage daughters, woodworking, golf and power boating.
John Eccles
After graduating with a B.A. from Sir Wilfred Laurier University, John has continued his education with studies at the Banff School of Fine Arts, the University of Victoria and the Victoria College of Fine Art.
After 35 years in media and television production, John has amassed an impressive list of projects to his credit. He has edited program content and syndicated series for national networks, marketing and training videos, with close to three decades of station promotions and commercials on a daily basis.
In addition to his technical prowess as a production editor, John has produced and directed close to 40 music videos that have aired on Much Music, as well as produced and directed a half hour series “Inside Trax” which aired on Western Canada stations.
John’s background in editing scores of projects for internal and external clients under deadline has given him a broad scope of talents, including non-linear editing in standard or HD, After Effects and other animation and titling software, audio sweetening, colour correction and a multitude of tape and digital media.
With numerous awards for his work on programming, videos and commercials, John continues to edit with a critical eye, an artistic sense and a keen sense of timing. His credits include ProMax International, the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters Excellence Awards and the Television Bureau of Canada Awards.

Dave Lackmanec
Dave’s background in design includes four years of design education and a Diploma in Commercial Art from Capilano College as well as an apprenticeship producing news graphics for CBC in Vancouver with his trusty air brush.
Admired as a “˜graphics wizard’ by his peers, there isn’t anything Dave hasn’t tackled and pulled off in his tenure of close to 20 years as an Art Director. Among his many talents are set design, property construction, print design & layout, storyboards, television graphics and animations.
Dave’s work has been enjoyed coast-to-coast and abroad. He has designed and animated logos, intros and bumpers for syndicated series for national networks, international marketing and training videos plus design for newscasts, station promotions and commercials on a daily basis.
In addition to Dave’s understanding of design is his technical work. He is fluent with After Effects and Adobe Creative Suite to name just two of the many software titles he has learned. He continuously educates himself through tutorials and consistently strives for artistic excellence.
Both national advertisers and producers are spellbound by his work. His ability to render a project under extremely tight deadlines is legendary and the quality and creativity of his work under these conditions is second to none. His sense of humour is enjoyed by his co-workers and clients alike.
With numerous national and international awards for his work on programs, commercials and station promotions, Dave continues to conjure up one graphic miracle after another, using his artistic flair, his eye for detail and his talent for composition. His credits are international including numerous PROMAX and Broadcast Designers Association awards, the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters Excellence Awards, the BC Lotus Awards and the Television Bureau of Canada Awards.
When Dave isn’t busy working on an impossible number of projects while listening to lounge music, he enjoys surfing, playing guitar, a round of golf with his pals, and time with his wife and his Doberman. It’s a marvel he has time for everything, but then, he is a wizard after all.
Rosy Gocher
Over the course of a diverse 15-year career in all aspects of graphic design, corporate design and plastic arts, Rosy has proven her sensibility for all kinds of different art expressions.
Rosy is a 1991 graduate of the Graphic Design School at the University of San Luis Potosi, Mexico and in 1993 earned a Masters Degree in Visual Arts from the Scuola Politecnica di Design in Milano, Italy. While studying in Milan, she worked part-time as a free-lance designer for various studios. Her experience and education were further enriched while working along side renowned artists such as Heinz Waible, Daniele Baroni, and Nino di Salvatore.
In 1995 Rosy returned to her home in San Luis Potosi, Mexico to begin her professional career at the Information and Graphic Design Department of the University of San Luis Potosi, creating visual and marketing strategies for all faculties.
In parallel to her work as a designer, Rosy was a professor of Graphic Design, Consumer Analysis and Marketing at both the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM) campus San Luis, and at the Faculty of Habitat at the University of San Luis Potosi.
In 1999 Rosy moved to Canada as an entrepreneur, running her own trading business for home decor items. She also taught Spanish, and continued her graphic design career working for various clients including the Manitoba Theatre for Young People, Banyan Trading Company, Red River College, and Graphic Designers of Canada among others.
Rosy moved to Victoria, B.C. in 2001 where she volunteered for the Graphic designers of Canada and worked as a free-lance designer. She began working at CHEK NEWS (then CH) in 2002 as a graphic designer responsible for the application of cohesive and consistent brand elements for all newscasts. Rosy is also an accomplished acrylic artist who has exhibited works in Canada and Mexico.
Gil Letourneau
Gil’s reputation behind the lens often precedes him. He has directed and shot everything from Olympic coverage to nationally syndicated series on Global and other CanWest Media Works stations to Movies of the Week and thousands of commercials. Creative, quick thinking and a perfectionist at heart, Gil has been a Director of Photography in the Creative Services department for over 28 years. His intuitive nature and his critical eye contribute to every production, whether he is working with a product on table top or capturing panoramic vistas.
Gil has a flair for lighting design, specializing in dramatic production. “God loves to backlight, and so should we,” has been his motto. His experience in a variety of productions for broadcast has given him a portfolio that ranges from lighting, shooting and direction of talent for studio and location TV series, to standing for hours in freezing rain to capture awe-inspiring images of eagles. From stop-action film animation to High Definition, Gil has shot it all.
Gil has accumulated many awards for his work on programming, videos and commercials, including the New York Festivals, the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters Excellence Awards and the Television Bureau of Canada Awards.
Highlights of his work include D.O.P. for the M.O.W. “The Hound of London,” starring Patrick MacNee, Director/D.O.P. for the dramatic sci-fi series “˜Time Exposures’, and D.O.P. for the internationally award winning documentary “˜The Eagles of Brackendale.’
Gil is currently working on a number of projects in commercial production, marketing videos and station promotion. He enjoys entertaining with his wife Nancy, painting, a fine single malt on occasion, and a stretch in the Caribbean.
Ted Kuzemski
When clients want that big, cinematic experience, they turn to Ted. His reputation for getting the money-shot is well earned; he has shot everything from nationally syndicated series on the Global and other CanWest Media Works stations to Movies of the Week. Ted brings over 25 years of creativity and technical precision to his position as Director of Photography for CHEK News Creative Services. His extensive film and television background allows him to achieve a wide range of looks and styles.
Ted’s lighting design ranges from dramatic and stylized to clean and simple. His broad range of experience includes complex studio and location productions for TV series, national image ad campaigns, documentaries and instructional and marketing videos. He stays on top of the ever-changing recording technology, and has shot everything from HD to 35mm film to digital photography.
Videos and commercials Ted has created images for have won international and national awards, including the New York Festivals, the British Columbia Association of Broadcasters Excellence Awards and the Television Bureau of Canada Awards.
Highlights of his work include Director/D.O.P./Still Photographer for Global National News, D.O.P. on commercials for Thrifty Foods, Chrysler Canada, Times Colonist, Terasen Gas and Iams for Proctor & Gamble.
Ted keeps busy on a variety of projects, from commercial production to marketing videos and station promotion. He enjoys coaching soccer, digital photography, time with his wife and their two teenage daughters, and travelling to exotic locations in search of the next money-shot.
