A mother is dead and her 3-year-old son and husband are fighting for their lives after a man went on a violent rampage, stabbing people at a birthday party. The incident happened around 4:30 Saturday afternoon at a townhouse on Glen Street in Oshawa. The rampage ended with Police shooting and killing the suspect.
The toddler has been airlifted to Sick Kids hospital while his 5-year-old brother, who was also stabbed, is in less serious condition at Lake Ridge Hospital in Oshawa. Three other children escaped injury and were taken to the police station accompanied by a neighbour.
Police say the 47-year-old suspect was at home in his townhouse on Glen Street near Wentworth. He then walked over to the victim’s unit and began stabbing people.
Police say when they arrived, they found a husband, wife and their two children stabbed. Police located the suspect and shot and killed him during a confrontation. The mother died from her injuries and the father is at Sunnybrook in critical condition.
The Special Investigations Unit has been called in because the investigation involved a police shooting and are currently investigating. SIU spokesman John Yoannou said police are currently unsure exactly what happened, but "it is very much an active investigation." Police are canvassing the area trying to get information, but are unsure the relationship between the suspect and the family of victims.
