Point Grey bike lane route decision delayed for another evening

Craig Wadman/Global News

Vancouver city council will wait another day to make a decision on creating a dedicated bike lane route from the Burrard Street bridge to Point Grey.

Tonight’s meeting was adjourned at its scheduled time of 10 p.m. after 59 speakers had given their opinion on the topic. Approximately 200 people had signed up to speak on the motion, which was deferred from Tuesday’s council meeting to give enough time to speakers.

The controversial plan would create bike lanes on York Road, and close Point Grey road to commuter vehicles.

The city believes it is vital to create a complete link from Point Grey and Kitsilano to Downtown and that adjacent streets could handle the increased traffic. A bike route along Point Grey was part of the transportation plan approved by the city last year.
