Regina police shut downtown streets for ongoing operation Thursday morning

Residents and drivers in downtown Regina saw a heavy police presence Thursday morning, as officers responded to a domestic conflict inside an apartment building in the 1800 block of Halifax Street.

Police said they received a call around 4:30 a.m. saying male and female voices could be heard in what sounded like a heated argument.

As officers responded, there was the sound of possible gunshots, according to police.

Police said emergency services teams were requested at the scene, including the crisis negotiators team, special weapons and tactics team, along with the canine unit.

Shortly after, police said, two people were safely taken into custody.

By 9:15 a.m., SWAT officers had cleared the building and ensured that people could return to the area safely.

Police are now investigating. It is unclear at this time if charges will be laid.
