Three swimmers between the ages of 48 and 86 were picked up by an inshore boat from the joint rescue co-ordination centre.

Others in the area got flotation devices to them until they could be rescued.

The two other swimmers were rescued by people in kayaks.

Sgt. Kevin Dunlevy says the incident is an indication of changing tides in the area at this time of the year.
