A 19 year old McMaster University student is charged in the Brandon Hall residence arson.
A fire was set in the elevator in the early hours of Saturday October 18th, leading to the evacuation of 580 residents. Four required treatment for smoke inhalation.
Police say Emerson Pardoe was arrested Monday on the McMaster campus, and they say he admitted setting the fire.
Investigators say Pardoe actually set two fires that night: one was in a poster, that was just after midnight, another student put that fire out; and then they say the elevator was set on fire. Police say Pardoe is their only suspect in this case.
Brandon Hall has been closed since the blaze, with students scattered among several hotels, and homes.
Pardoe had a bail hearing Tuesday.
