SASKATOON – The City of Saskatoon has reopened the public boat launch in Kiwanis Park after flows decreased following the Alberta flooding.
On June 20, the Saskatchewan Water Security Agency (WSA) initially estimated flows on the South Saskatchewan River into Lake Diefenbaker would rise approximately two to three metres.
To reduce reservoir levels at Diefenbaker, outflows were increased causing a significant rise along riverbanks across the province.

As of Tuesday morning, the water flow on the South Saskatchewan River has decreased from a record setting 2115 cubic metres per second to 410.
Previous currents that had swept away a safety boom have dissipated allowing its reinstallation to provide a safety barrier in front of the weir.
It is prohibited to operate a vessel in the waters surrounding the weir on the South Saskatchewan River. A fine of up to $10,000 applies to those convicted.
The city says the current river flow is still above average and extremely dangerous.
Boaters are asked to keep water safety and equipment on board as National Drowning Prevention Week continues this week.
